cottage in essex...
when
the clients purchased the cottage it had been neglected for some time
and was in dire need of attention. they were desperate to get rid of
the tobacco yellow walls, dark kitchen units and puce pink bathroom
and increase the sense of space and light but only had a very small
budget for the work. bearing this in mind, we provided the clients with
detailed plans for the kitchen layout and samples of all the materials
in order that the clients could carry out as much of the work themselves
as possible.
our
starting point for the re-design was the solid quartzite floor tiles
we had found for downstairs which were very reasonably priced. we combined
these with inexpensive kitchen units and open wall shelves from ikea,
small light coloured sofas with washable covers and a cream paint by
dulux.
however,
to make the design appear a little more special and give the cottage
some character, we also used a few more expensive items: extra thick
solid beech worktops in the kitchen, farrow and ball paint on the doors
and 100% wool carpet in the bedrooms.
